Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is keen to sign a new left wing-back during the winter transfer window and has identified Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a target.

The Red Devils suffered a chastening 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford last weekend, meaning they are heading into Christmas in the bottom half of the Premier League and having lost four of Ruben Amorim’s first nine matches at the helm. The Portuguese tactician has had to deal with injury problems upon arriving at the club, with some players coming into his team before dropping out.

Luke Shaw has been one of those. The English left-back missed the opening months of the campaign with a calf problem, and after he worked hard to regain full fitness and feature in the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in Amorim’s first game in charge, he suffered a fresh muscle injury. And with Tyrell Malacia still rusty after over 18 months out with double knee surgery, the club are planning to invest in a new left-back in January.

Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has given a huge update on Manchester United’s interest in Milos Kerkez. He has revealed that the 20-time English champions’ interest in the Bournemouth defender are “more concrete” than their bitter rivals Liverpool.

“For Milos Kerkez, I think keep an eye on Manchester United because Man United are also looking at that position. Man United, I’m told, are more concrete than Liverpool in this monitoring activity for Milos Kerkez,” Romano said on the Men in Blazers podcast.

Milos Kerkez a concrete target for Man United?

INEOS will be hoping to back Amorim with new additions over the next couple of transfer windows with Man United sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Since arriving at the club in November, the Portuguese tactician appears worried by the lack of tactical evolution of the squad that he has inherited from Erik ten Hag.

The left wing-back berth is considered a big problem at the moment, with neither Diogo Dalot nor Malacia justifying that they could have a future in that position. The club have already several wing-backs under consideration but Kerkez appears to be at the apex of their list.

Amorim and Man United got a taste of Kerkez’s qualities on and off the ball last weekend, as Bournemouth smashed them 3-0 at Old Trafford. The Hungarian produced an exceptional performance, doing well to keep the dangerous Amad Diallo at bay.

The youngster has been a mainstay in the Cherries’ defence under Andoni Iraola, alerting a number of clubs with his impressive displays. Liverpool are also understood to be vying for Kerkez’s signature, but as per Romano it is United who are concretely keeping tabs on his progress.

It will be intriguing to see whether the Mancunian giants can convince Bournemouth to sell one of their stars during their excellent campaign in the top flight.
