Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Chelsea are keen on signing KAA Gent left-back Archie Brown.
The former England under-20 international joined KAA Gent from Swiss club Lausanne-Sport in August 2023 and has become a mainstay in their defence. He has been fantastic for Gent this season and has performances have drawn interest from English clubs.
Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham are reportedly eyeing a January swoop for Archie Brown, but there are other top Premier League clubs monitoring his progress. The Englishman, who has a contract until 2027 with the Belgian club, could be on the move in the winter transfer window. However, his suitors have to splash big to persuade Gent into selling the full-back.
Archie Brown—a coveted commodity in the English market
Brown has done well in Belgium and should be harbouring hopes of playing in the Premier League—arguably the most competitive league in world football. The left-back is clearly not short of suitors, with West Ham, Spurs and Chelsea all vying for his signature.
It is no surprise that these London clubs want to sign Brown. West Ham want a young player to replace Aaron Cresswell, who will turn 35 in December and his contract expires at the end of the season. Expected to be released, that would leave the Hammers with just Emerson Royal as the only senior left-back in the squad. This would make Brown a smart addition to their squad.
Meanwhile, Spurs need quality left-back to compete and cover for Destiny Udogie. Ben Davies is past his prime and coming to the end of his contract. The Welshman is often used as a centre-back by Ange Postecoglou, which practically leaves Udogie as the only recognised left-back in the defensive ranks. As such, the Lilywhites’ interest in signing Brown makes sense.
As for Chelsea, Ben Chilwell has been frozen out by manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian tactician has used Marc Cucurella, Renato Veiga and Malo Gusto at left-back this season, and while has quality options at his disposal, he wants to bring the industrious and speedy Brown to Stamford Bridge.
Brown will be excited about the possibility of plying his trade in the Premier League as the interested clubs could provide him with the platform to showcase his qualities at the highest level. Whoever wins the race for his signature will have a talented player with huge potential in their ranks.
