Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion winger Facundo Buonanotte, who is currently on loan at newly promoted Premier League club Leicester City.
The Argentinean international, 19, joined the Foxes on loan in the summer in a bid to get regular game time in the Premier League. The fleet-footed winger’s impact has been positive for Steve Cooper’s side with three goals and two assists in 11 Premier League games thus far.
The dazzling displays of Facundo Buonanotte have sparked the interest from Premier League clubs. Tottenham could reportedly battle it out with Manchester City for the teenager’s signature next year, with Brighton slapping a €50million asking price on his head. The player has been enjoying life at the King Power Stadium and Leicester City would be willing to buy him.
Spurs eyeing Son Heung-min replacement?
Tottenham have changed their recruitment policy in recent years, investing millions in burgeoning talents with high potential rather than finished articles. They have signed the likes of Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Min-hyeok Yang in the past transfer window, with the latter poised to arrive at N17 from South Korean club Gangwon FC.
The Lilywhites have set their sights on signing a long-term replacement for their skipper Son Heung-min, who is 32 and out of contract at the end of the season. Even though the club have the option of triggering a one-year extension in his contract, Spurs perhaps feel the time is right to slowly phase out Son.
The South Korean international has been an excellent servant for Tottenham ever since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015. He has been a consistent performer, operating in different attacking roles, creating chances, making assists and scoring plenty of goals in a white shirt. And as Son comes to his supposed peak years in top football, the north London club have identified Buonanotte as his potential replacement.
Buonanotte could be wise investment for Spurs
Buonanotte has shown enough promise with Brighton and Leicester to suggest he has a big future ahead of him. The young Argentinean largely features on the right side as a winger or midfielder but can also operate as a No.10 behind the main striker—a position he has been taking up under Steve Cooper at Leicester.
Thus, the 19-year-old may not be viewed as a like-for-like Son replacement due to their different profiles. Perhaps, if he moves to Spurs, Buonanotte would likely challenge Brennan Johnson for a spot on the right flank as well as cover for Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison as a creative No.8.
Quick, nimble footed, direct and dynamic, the Perez-born talent would enhance Ange Postecoglou’s squad. However, whether Spurs would be willing to meet Brighton’s €50million asking price for Buonanotte is a case that needs to be watched.
