RANKED: The 6 best players of Premier League Gameweek 5

Despite being little of a month into the new season, Gameweek 5 may go down as one of the most important of the 2024/25 in the Premier League.

That is in large part thanks to Manchester City salvaging a crucial point in the 97th minute of their clash with title rivals Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, but also thanks to Tottenham’s impressive comeback against Brentford and Liverpool’s bounce back win over Bournemouth.

And after all of that fun, here’s the top six players of the Premier League‘s weekend action – ranked, of course.

After a tricky few weeks, Tottenham Hotspur needed their star players to step up to the plate against Brentford.

James Maddison did exactly that.

The creative midfielder look back to his very, very best in the 3-1 win, creating three chances for his teammates and wrapping up all three points late on with a confident dinked finish.

Dean Henderson

There is literally one reason why Manchester United didn’t beat Crystal Palace on Saturday evening: Dean Henderson.

The 27-year-old came back to haunt his former side this past weekend by making seven remarkable saves to earn a clean sheet for himself and a point for his team.

Andre Onana did pretty well at the other end, we must add.

After getting an unholy amount of stick for his performances in his maiden campaign with Chelsea, Moises Caicedo has looked hellbent on making amends in 2024/25.

The holding midfielder put in yet another much-improved showing in the 3-0 win over West Ham on Saturday. As well as setting up a goal, Caicedo also won a rather ridiculous 13 duels in the middle of the park.

He means business this season.

Speaking of players who mean business this season, here’s Morgan Rogers.

The 22-year-old has been one of the breakout stars of the early weeks of 2024/25, and he continued his fine form this past weekend.

Rogers inspired Villa’s second half comeback against Wolves, setting up two of his side’s three goals after they’d gone into half-time one goal down.

England call-up incoming? Perhaps.

Luis Diaz

After his star turn in the Champions League win over AC Milan in midweek, there was plenty of talk that Cody Gakpo would replace Luis Diaz in the starting XI for the weekend clash with Bournemouth at Anfield.

In the end, Arne Slot entrusted Diaz with the start – and it proved to be a pretty damn good decision.

The Colombian bagged a quick brace in the first half, showing off a deft touch and quick thinking to round Kepa Arrizabalaga for the first, coolly sliding the ball under the Spanish loanee for the second.

Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson

Despite the kids on social media calling him ‘washed’ or a ‘walking L’, and despite Chelsea trying in vain to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer, it’s pretty clear at this stage that Nicolas Jackson is the man to the lead the Chelsea forward line.

The Senegalese international was the best player in the whole division over the weekend after all.

Jackson netted two goals and set up the other in the 3-0 win over London rivals West Ham in the early kick-off on Saturday, making light work of Konstantinos Mavropanos and Edson Alvarez in the process.
