Old Trafford news

Manchester United have released a statement as they continue to look into the redevelopment – or possible rebuilding – of Old Trafford.

A club statement read: “An Options Report has been submitted by the Task Force to executive bodies at Manchester United, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Trafford Borough Council.

“It sets out a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the historic industrial engine room of Greater Manchester into a vibrant new driver of growth and innovation in sports, entertainment, business, and education.

“The vision is for Manchester United to develop a world-class stadium, acting as a catalyst for wider regeneration of a re-energised Trafford Park.”

Rooney’s new gig

Wayne Rooney is in talks for a new job after his recent exit from Plymouth Argyle.

The Man Utd and England legend is still looking to be a manager but is being lined-up to become part of a new-look Match of the Day.

With Gary Lineker leaving at the end of the season, SunSport exclusively revealed that Rooney could be a pundit on the show next season.

‘I’m not ready to write off Man City’

Premier League legend Troy Deeney STILL has Man City in this title race.

In his SunSport column, the former Watford striker has outlined why Pep Guardiola’s team have been so poor – by their lofty standards – this season.

He also outlined how and why City could still end up with the Premier League trophy in their hands.

‘A true gentleman’

Tributes poured in for the United great with the likes of David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville among those to pay homage to the striker.

Former team-mate Brian Kidd wrote a heartfelt message that read: “He was slight, with the heart of a lion.

“An unbelievable finisher, he scored every type of goal.

“He said to me: ‘If you’re ever wide, don’t look up, put the cross in early. If I’m not there it’s my fault’. He was usually there.

“Sir Matt [Busby] loved him. We all did. He was the King of the Stretford End.”

Rooney wrote on X:  “Legend. Thoughts with all Denis’ family and friends.”

Neville added: “Rest in Peace Denis. A great footballer and a great man.

“It’s a privilege and an honour to have spent time in your company. The King of the Stretford End.”

Beckham wrote: “Tonight we lost a true gentleman of the game. Our heart goes out to Denis’s family.

“Our hearts are heavy tonight. A legend on the field but the perfect gentleman off.”

Law tributes

The football world was in mourning last night as Manchester United legend Denis Law died after a battle with dementia.

Law, who was 84, scored 237 goals in 404 games for United and helped them to two league titles, an FA Cup and the 1968 European Cup.

The 1964 Ballon d’Or winner also famously scored a back-heel goal AGAINST United for Man City with the club relegated just a couple of weeks later.

United are expected to hold a minute’s silence and wear black armbands in honour of Law.

A statement from his family read: “It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care, past and much more recently.

“We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made the difference. Thank you.”
