Manchester United are aiming to make a move for Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram next year.
Marcus Thuram, 27, joined Inter Milan on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2023 and enjoyed a strong debut season in Italy. He registered 15 goals and 14 assists in 46 games across all competitions during the 2023/24 season, as Inter Milan won the scudetto under Simone Inzaghi’s tutelage.
The France international has enjoyed a rollicking start to the 2024/25 campaign with seven goals and three assists in seven Serie A appearances. Such hot form has reportedly caught the attention of Manchester United. However, they aren’t the only club interested in his services. Thuram, who has an €85 million release clause in his contract, is also on the radar of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
Erik ten Hag’s future at Man United certain
Man United have endured a disastrous start to the new season and sit 14th in the Premier League table after seven games. This has left Erik ten Hag under enormous pressure, with sections of the fanbase, media and pundits calling for the new co-owners INEOS to sack him.
There has been intense speculation surrounding the Dutch tactician’s future heading into the international break. While his team followed a 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur with away draws against FC Porto and Aston Villa, there has been a lot of chatter regarding Erik ten Hag’s position at the club during the Red Devils’ monthly board meeting last week.
As things stand, INEOS have decided to stick with Ten Hag and back him after spending millions over five signings during the summer transfer window. Nonetheless, they will not be averse to make a change at the helm if the 54-year-old fails to turn the club’s fortunes around quickly.
Manchester United following Simone Inzaghi
It is believed that the 20-time English champions are closely following Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi as a potential replacement for Ten Hag.
Since becoming Inter’s boss in 2021, Inzaghi has done a fantastic job, winning a Serie A title, two Coppa Italia, and three Supercoppa Italiana trophies. He is now one of the highly rated managers across Europe, and his style of play, leadership skills, and tactics have caught the attention of Man United.
The Red Devils are already taking initial steps to try and convince the Piacenza-born tactician to move to Old Trafford next summer after Ten Hag’s failure to produce the desired results this season. Should they manage to lure Inzaghi, INEOS may bid for Thuram in an attempt to reinforce their attack.
It remains to be seen what happens with Ten Hag in the coming weeks and months, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team appear ready to make a change at the top if needed.
