Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing Inter Milan wing-back Federico Dimarco ahead of the winter transfer window.
INEOS are keen to back new boss Ruben Amorim in January after an extremely disappointing opening months of the new season. They are keen to bolster the Portuguese’s squad following a further injury setback to Luke Shaw, while Tyrell Malacia has only recently returned from almost 18 months out due to a knee injury.
In Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, the left wing-back position is in dire need of strengthening and the chiefs at Old Trafford have drawn up a list of options to target in 2025. Federico Dimarco is reportedly one of those options on Manchester United’s radar.
Dimarco has established himself as one of the best attacking wing-backs in Europe, thanks to his consistent performances for Inter Milan over the last few seasons. The Italy international—a flying left wing-back—has netted 17 goals in 154 appearances for Inter, demonstrating his goalscoring prowess. He is pacey, agile and tenacious, packing a powerful shot on his sweet left foot.
Federico Dimarco says No to Man United?
Upon approaching Inter over a possible move for Dimarco, Man United have instantly met with a rejection from both the club and player with neither party interested in entering the negotiating table for a deal.
An ardent Inter fan, Dimarco has no intentions whatsoever to leave San Siro. He is set to enter talks with the Serie A champions about extending his current contract. So, one could imagine why Man United were met with a swift ‘No’ from the Italy International and Inter. However, Dimarco isn’t the only left wing-back on the Red Devils’ shortlist.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes is among the targets
Paris Saint-Germain star Nuno Mendes has also emerged as a target for Amorim’s club. The Portugal international, who joined PSG from Sporting in the summer of 2021, played for just one season under Amorim during 2020/21 and won a league title before moving to France.
While the Parisians have no interest in selling Mendes, the left-back/wing-back will have just 12 months left in his contract at the end of the season, meaning Man United could potentially acquire his signature at a reduced price.
Nonetheless, due to Man United’s financial constraints having splashed a lot of money during the summer transfer window, it remains uncertain whether INEOS will sign a left wing-back as early as January.
