Liverpool are monitoring the development of Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez to reinforce the left-back position in 2025.
Milos Kerkez, 20, joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2023 from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar and quickly became a starter under Andoni Iraola. The left-back racked up 28 Premier League appearances for the Cherries in a solid maiden season in England. He has become a mainstay in the backline for Iraola’s side, impressing with his work ethic, energy, pace, agility and tenacity.
This has seen the Hungarian emerge as a target for top Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea. Liverpool are reportedly looking to improve the left-back position with the signing of Kerkez, with Arne Slot keen on adding fresh faces to his squad.
Arne Slot looking beyond Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas?
The Reds only managed to make two signings throughout the summer transfer window. Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and forward Federico Chiesa signed from Valencia and Juventus respectively, although the former is spending this entire season on loan with Los Che.
Arne Slot, whose Liverpool side have started the 2024/25 season extremely well, is keen on improving a couple of positions in his squad that he inherited from the legendary Jurgen Klopp. One of those positions is the left-back, which Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas currently fill.
Robertson has been a brilliant servant for Liverpool since joining in an £ 8 million deal from Hull City in the summer of 2017. However, the Scotland skipper has endured a couple of injury-hit campaigns and entered his 30s, while Tsimikas is not viewed as a long-term option at left-back.
As a result, the Merseyside giants are scouring the market for a new player in the area. They have been tracking the rise of Kerkez at Bournemouth and could make a move for him in the summer of 2025. Pacey, athletic and tenacious with solid technical ability and running power, the Hungarian would be an ideal like-for-like Robertson replacement at Anfield.
While he is still raw, as expected from a 20-year-old, the talent has been there for everyone to watch and the left-back has shown enough promise to catch the eyes of Liverpool and many other Premier League clubs. Plus, Kerkez has got a Premier League season’s experience under his belt, allowing him time to settle down after arriving from the Eredivisie.
All in all, Liverpool must look to beat both Man United and Chelsea to Kerkez’s signature as he may well turn out to be Robertson 2.0.
