Heisman Trophy Award 2024 LIVE: Guests are starting to arrive as event is a few hours away

The time has come for the top player in college football to be crowned accordingly. The Heisman Trophy is the most prestigious award in the sport of college football, with only one player being able to enshrine themselves in history per season.

This year, the four finalists are Travis Hunter (Colorado), Ashton Jeanty (Boise State), Cam Ward (Miami) and Dillon Gabriel (Oregon). By all accounts, it’s a two-man race between Hunter and Jeanty.

The event will be held at the Lincoln Center in New York City. It is scheduled to start at 8pm ET / 5pm PT, and will be shown live on ESPN.

Heisman Trophy 2024 Ceremony LIVE: Highlights of most prestigious award in college football

History of the Heisman Trophy

The Heisman Trophy has been awarded annually to the top player in college football since 1935. It is separate from the AP College Football Player of the Year award, which Travis Hunter won this week.

While any position can win the award, it has predominantly gone to quarterbacks in recent years. A QB has won it in seven of the last eight years.

  • 2023: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU
  • 2022: Caleb Williams, QB, USC
  • 2021: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
  • 2020: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
  • 2019: Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
  • 2018: Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma
  • 2017: Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
  • 2016: Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville

2024 Heisman Trophy Betting Odds

This year, it’s all but certain that a quarterback will not win it. Hunter and Ashton Jeanty are the favorites to take home the award, with Cam Ward and Dillon Gabriel, the two quarterbacks, way behind in terms of betting odds.

  • Travis Hunter, WR, Colorado: -2500
  • Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State: +1000
  • Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oregon: +25000
  • Cam Ward, QB, Miami: +25000

Despite Jeanty having one of the best running back seasons in recent memory, it seems like it won’t be enough against the two-way stardom of Hunter.
