Hannah Hampton's best WSL & England saves

Hannah Hampton became the youngest goalkeeper to reach 100 Barclays Women’’s Super League appearances in Chelsea’s 5-0 victory against Everton at the weekend.

The 23-year-old has been a top flight player since she was a teenager but has transformed into one of the WSL’s best and has gone from strength to strength in her bid to become England’s next regular number one.

Questions arose around Hampton’s decision to depart Aston Villa for Chelsea in the summer of 2023, as many fans wondered why a young goalkeeper of her talent would opt to move to a club who were already stacked with the likes of Ann-Katrin Berger and Zecira Musovic.

However, it didn’t take long for Hampton to wave those doubts away, making her debut for the Blues with a 3-0 clean sheet away to Bristol City in December 2023. For her, the rest was history.

Reaching her big WSL milestone at the age of just 23, potential to become even better is sky high.

90min have ranked Hannah Hampton’s five best saves during her career in top-flight football.

A meeting with Arsenal in last season’s Conti Cup final awaited either Manchester City or Chelsea, and Hampton’s performance was integral in the eventual outcome of this semi-final clash.

She was able to pull off ten saves against one of the best attacking frontlines in Europe to underpin the Blues getting through.

Selected as England‘s number one across both meetings with France in the UEFA Women’s Nations League last season, Hampton proved why she was so deserving of a place in the starting XI.

It was a disappointing outing for England at St James’ Park overall as France claimed a 2-1 win on the occasion.

But , despite the result, Hampton was able to stop Maelle Lakrar’s header from hitting the back of the net.

A performance against her future club while in action for Aston Villa in 2022 further underlined Hampton’s status as a star in the making after initially rising to prominence with Birmingham City.

First denying a shot from Sam Kerr at close range, she quickly regained her composure to pull off a remarkable double save by block Guro Reiten’s strike.

Aston Villa boss at the time Carla Ward celebrated from the sidelines: “Hannah, superb!”

Causing a serious selection headache for England manager Sarina Wiegman, Hampton continues to prove herself to be a serious threat to Mary Earps for the number one shirt ahead of Euro 2025 next summer.

An incredible save in the 91st minute saw Hampton preserve England’s 2-1 lead over France in a must-win clash with the Lionesses.

Lightning reaction time from led England to victory in this UEFA Women’s Nations League fixture in Saint-Etienne.

Coming in at number one is none other than Hampton’smost recent heroic save, which came in the dying minutes of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the current season.

Preserving the lead against her former side, she reached to tip opposing goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo’s last ditch header over the crossbar.
