England were utterly dominant for the first half of that opening 45, and did not miss Harry Kane as his replacement Ollie Watkins stuck away an early opener.
Greece did start to come into it after that, roared on by 60,000 passionate fans in this Olympic ground, and Jordan Pickford was forced into action a few times.
But Lee Carsley will have been largely very happy with what he saw, particularly after the disaster against the Greeks at Wembley last month.
Curtis Jones has looked confident in possession on debut and dovetailed well with Conor Gallagher.
Jude Bellingham has had some gorgeous touches and passes, despite a green laser regularly being pointed in his direction.
But Noni Madueke’s directness coming off the right has been most impressive, running at his man at every opportunity and brilliantly creating Watkins’ goal.
England will be taking nothing for granted after their last game against Greece but will know that another goal will put them on course to win the group.
HT: Greece 0-1 England
England enjoyed a very good first half against Greece at OAKA thanks to Ollie Watkins’ early opener.
Much was said about Harry Kane getting dropped to the bench shortly after he appeared to take a swipe at his nine team-mates that dropped out.
However, Watkins proved interim manager Lee Carsley right after just seven minutes.
Jude Bellingham released Noni Madueke down the left with a fantastic ball and the Chelsea ace found the Aston Villa striker inside the penalty area from where he fired past Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Now the Three Lions need just one more goal to sit at the top nice and comfortably, but they will do it with Bellingham, Conor Gallagher and Jordan Pickford on a yellow after three reckless bookings.
HT: Greece 0-1 England
Peep!
That’s half-time in Athens!!!

Lee Carsley will definitely be pleased with what he has seen so far, even though Greece have come back into the game. It is nice to see the team with pace down both wings with Noni Madueke and Anthony Gordon.
45 Greece 0-1 England
Two more minutes of stoppage time to go.
England are very comfortable, amazing first half – especially from Bellingham.
43 Greece 0-1 England
Just two minutes until half-time and whatever stoppage.
A very good first half for Carsley’s heavily-rotated side.
Kane and none of the other nine absentees are being missed…
