FLORIAN WIRTZ has told Bayern Munich he is joining Liverpool in a move that will SMASH the British transfer record, according to reports.
The German attacking midfielder is one of the hottest properties on the transfer market this summer.
But, according to football journalist, Sacha Tavolieri, Wirtz is now just one step away from joining the Anfield outfit.
And a follow up report by Fabrizio Romano states Liverpool have now made a formal approach to land the 22-year-old after being the green light from all parties.
Mere days ago it was revealed Manchester City had pulled out of the race to sign the Bayer Leverkusen ace over concerns about the overall cost of the deal potentially reaching a figure of £252million.
The numbers involved in the deal did not deter German champions Bayern Munich or English champions Liverpool.
And according to Tavolieri, Wirtz had initially told City he would be joining Vincent Kompany‘s side in Bavaria.
However, the 22-year-old and his entourage are said to have had another change of heart after meeting Liverpool representatives.
And Wirtz has now informed Bayern he will be joining Liverpool.
He is said to have personally told the German giants management of his decision.

And it now places him close to a move to Liverpool following reports that he was already house-hunting in the city.
Arne Slot‘s side will move to finalise a transfer agreement to sign him with Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group said to have signed off the huge £126million fee.
The Reds will now hope to seal a total agreement in the coming days.
The fee is £50MILLION MORE than Liverpool’s current most expensive signing, the £75m they paid for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
Darwin Nunez’s fee could have been more, had he reached a number on incentives.
The transfer will also top the record £115m Chelsea spent to get Moises Caicedo from Brighton in 2023.
Wirtz scored 16 goals and added 15 assists in 45 games this season as the club finished second in the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso, who has also been confirmed to be leaving the club.
Liverpool’s chase for Wirtz comes after links to stunning swoops for Wirtz’s team-mate Jeremie Frimpong and Bournemouth‘s Milos Kerkez to overhaul their full-back options.
