Chelsea striker Armando Broja is on the verge of joining Premier League new entrants Ipswich Town on loan until the end of the season. The loan deal reportedly includes an obligation to sign him for a fee in the region of £30 million if the Tractor Boys avoid relegation from the top flight.
Armando Broja has struggled for game time after emerging from Chelsea’s youth ranks, scoring just two goals in 38 appearances, with an ACL injury causing a major setback so early in his career. The Albania international spent the second half of last season on loan with Fulham, where the striker made just eight substitute appearances for Marco Silva’s side mainly due to the sparkling form of Rodrigo Muniz.
With the Blues having already added so many attacking talents this summer and are on the brink of re-signing Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, Broja is surplus to requirements for new boss Enzo Maresca. The 22-year-old, whose contract at Stamford Bridge doesn’t expire until 2028, has been linked to several clubs across Europe including Premier League sides such as Wolves and Everton.
However, Ipswich Town now has won the race for the Chelsea striker’s signature. Should the Albanian sign on the dotted lines, he will become the Kieran McKenna-managed club’s tenth summer signing.
Survival the main objective for Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town returned to the Premier League last weekend after 22 long years with a game against Arne Slot’s Liverpool. They fought well but eventually, the quality of Liverpool came on top, with Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah condemning the Tractor Boys their first defeat of the 2024/25 season.
Kieran McKenna has already etched his name in the club’s history books by guiding Ipswich to successive promotions. He has been backed well in transfer window by the owners but the Suffolk side have to fight tooth and nail for points if they are to maintain the top-flight status next year.
The newly promoted club have not enjoyed the start they would have hoped for but McKenna will take a lot of positives from the defeat to Liverpool. The young Northern Irishman’s first and foremost objective will be to guide his club to safety as quickly as possible, and with still nine days left for the transfer window to slam shut, he will be seeking to bolster his squad further.
