Chelsea are leading the race for highly-rated AS Monaco full-back Vanderson, while Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also among his admirers.
The Brazilian, 23, was heavily linked with a move away from AS Monaco in the past summer transfer window. Tottenham appeared to be his most likely destination after the sale of Emerson Royal to AC Milan. They opted against signing a new right-back, and in the end, a move for Vanderson didn’t materialise and he stayed at the French club.
Since arriving at AS Monaco from Gremio in January 2022, Vanderson has played 87 times, scoring six times and registering 10 assists. He has started the new campaign strongly with an assist in three Ligue 1 appearances. The 23-year-old’s strong displays over the last two years in French football have reportedly caught the attention of Chelsea.
Chelsea eyeing new right-back
Chelsea spent millions in the past summer transfer window to back new head coach Enzo Maresca. They tried addressing several gaping holes in the squad from last season and subsequently provide Maresca the tools to help turn the club’s fortunes around after disastrous last two years.
However, the Blues have endured a mixed start to the new season under the new boss, collecting only four points from a possible nine. Despite reinforcing various positions, the West London outfit are in no mood to stop and have seemingly set their sights on the January transfer window.
Owing to Reece James’ chronic injury issues in the over the last two seasons, Chelsea are planning to sign a new right-back. Malo Gusto has largely performed well since arriving from Lyon but he needs adequate cover moving forward. As a result, the Pensioners are eyeing a move for Vanderson.
The two-cap Brazil international has impressed during his time in Ligue 1, and despite signing a new four-year contract with Monaco at the start of the year, he could be interested in testing himself in the highly competitive Premier League. The 2001-born talent is an attacking right-back who will fit in Maresca’s system perfectly, whilst providing cover and competition for Gusto.
Rated at around £33 million, Chelsea must try to sign Vanderson in the winter transfer window. The Monaco flyer has the required qualities to thrive in the hustle and bustle of Premier League football.
