Fortunate Liverpool?

Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton yesterday means they are unable to match Arsenal’s points tally from last season.

Even if Arne Slot’s men beat Crystal Palace on the final day, they will finish the campaign with the title on 86 points.

That is also the lowest amount of points the Premier League champions have finished on since Leicester’s 81 nine years ago.

Arsenal came second last year with 89 points.

Barca out Williams race?

Nico Williams was a top target for Barcelona last summer but a deal for the Athletic Bilbao winger did not materialise.

He is now high up Arsenal’s wishlist and Barca have ruled themselves out going back in for the player.

Club president Joan Laporta said: “We valued Nico as potential signing last summer with Dani Olmo, but right now I think the club is valuing other players.”

Jor dropping

Jorginho is leaving Arsenal at the end of the season and will make his debut for Flamengo at the Club World Cup.

The 33-year-old midfielder’s deal at the Emirates is expiring and he has agreed to join the Brazilian side.

Flamengo are in a group with Jorginho’s former side Chelsea.

Prem giants go head to head for Viktor

Talk of Manchester United rivalling Arsenal for Viktor Gyokeres has never been hotter.

The Gunners are rated favourites for the Sporting Lisbon striker.

But United’s reported interest has stepped up a notch.Viktor Gyokeres has had another trophy-winning season for Sporting

TalkSPORT believe Old Trafford chief Ruben Amorim now has his heart set on the Sweden hero – as part of a reshaped frontline.

Wolves main man Matheus Cunha is understood to be another big part of Amorim’s plan for a new-look attack.

And it’s claimed Portuguese champs Sporting are prepared to sell the 26-year-old for around £58.5million – despite his release clause being £83.5m.
