Arsenal eyeing move for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo

Arsenal are plotting a move for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo after his strong start to the 2024/25 season.

Bryan Mbeumo

The Cameroon international, 25, has netted six goals in his first eight league games so far this campaign, placing him second only to Manchester City’s goal-machine Erling Haaland on the goalscoring list. His rich vein of form has caught the attention of several top Premier League clubs.

Arsenal are reportedly one of those clubs, with their recruitment team particularly fascinated by Bryan Mbeumo’s versatility to operate in multiple attacking positions. The 25-year-old can operate on the wing, up top, or as a secondary striker behind the No.9, and such flexibility could help Mikel Arteta when rotating his squad.

Arsenal were without Bukayo Saka for their trip to Bournemouth on Saturday, which they lost 2-0. It was the North London giants’ first defeat of the season.

Saka has been struggling with a hamstring injury that he picked up playing for England during the recent international break. The 23-year-old was forced off during England’s shock 2-1 defeat to Greece in a UEFA Nations League fixture and missed the Three Lions’ win over Finland as a result.

The Gunners’ pursuit of a new winger has fast-tracked owing to Saka’s injury blow. The English winger played with knocks and bruises for the majority of the last season, but Arsenal have now grown in concern after his recent injury. Due to the lack of quality strength in depth beyond Saka in wide positions, Mikel Arteta has seemingly set his sights on Bryan Mbeumo.

A left-footed right-winger, Mbeumo has been in dazzling form since the start of the season. Given his status as one of the key members of Thomas Frank’s squad, Brentford would be reluctant to lose him midway through the campaign. Yet, Arsenal may try to explore a deal when the transfer window reopens in January.

The French-born Cameroonian can take his game to the next level in a better side than Brentford, and Arteta’s Arsenal are definitely one of those sides. At 25, Mbeumo is approaching the peak years of his career and he is certain to be excited at the prospect of joining the Gunners should they come calling for his signature.

As Arteta and Co. look aim to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this time around, it would not be surprising if the club puts in a bid for the Brentford star in January.
