Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Manchester City ahead of a potential move this month.

A run of one victory and nine defeats in 13 games was cause for concern for Manchester City, but they ended 2024 with a win at Leicester City and kicked off 2025 with a home victory over West Ham. Having dropped out of the title race already, in Pep Guardiola’s own admission, the Sky Blues chiefs want to reinforce the squad with a couple of quality signings during this window. And one of those appears to be Omar Marmoush.

Marmoush, 25, has light up the Bundesliga this season with his goalscoring show for Eintracht Frankfurt. He has bagged 13 goals and supplied a further eight assists in 16 games in the Bundesliga. Overall, he has 30 goal contributions in just 24 games across all competitions, which has caught Man City’s attention among several European bigwigs.

Man City eye Omar Marmoush to fill in Julian Alvarez’s void

Man City decided to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in the summer and not sufficiently replace him, leaving Erling Haaland as the only pure No.9 in in Guardiola’s squad. However, that has come back to bite the Cityzens, with Haaland not scoring goals as regularly as he had in his first two seasons.

Perhaps to fill the void left by Alvarez, City are aiming to bring Marmoush to the Etihad Stadium. The Egypt international is a No.9 who can also operate wide or as a No 10, which makes him an ideal fit in Guardiola’s system. He would also ease the goalscoring burden on Haaland whilst adding flair, creativity and fresh spark to the City attack.

After scoring prolifically for Frankfurt this season, the 25-year-old will be hoping to make an immediate impact at the Etihad Stadium if City can agree on a fee with the Bundesliga club. While Frankfurt are not entertaining a mid-season sale, it is understood the club may accept a €60m-plus bid for Marmoush, who has already displayed his intent of joining Guardiola’s forces by agreeing personal terms with City.

It remains to be seen now whether City can fulfil Frankfurt’s financial demands and get a deal for Marmoush over the line in the coming days.
