Newcastle United want Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk on loan

Newcastle United are eyeing a January loan swoop for Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Mykhaylo Mudryk

Mykhaylo Mudryk, 23, has had a torrid time at Stamford Bridge since joining the club for Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023. Having arrived for an eye-watering €100m, the Ukrainian international can’t be regarded as anything but a flop at Chelsea.

The winger has fallen down the attacking pecking order since Enzo Maresca took the club’s reins earlier this summer. He is yet to score or assist in seven Premier League games and has been mostly utilized in cup competitions by Enzo Maresca. It is understood that the Blues are planning to loan Mudryk out when the transfer window reopens.

Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation at Stamford Bridge and would be interested in signing him on a six-month loan. Chelsea, on their part, are ready to allow Mudryk to join the Magpies.

Newcastle keen on Mykhaylo Mudryk

Newcastle have endured a disappointing season, failing to hit the consistency levels required to compete for a top-four finish. Injury problems to key performers have hugely impacted the Toon Army’s season.

A signing or two in the winter window could provide the boost for Eddie Howe’s side to challenge for Champions League spots. The English tactician supposedly wants a new attacker in his ranks, having set his sights on Chelsea’s Mudryk.

Mudryk has shown glimpses of his talent during his time at Chelsea. However, it appears he still hasn’t adapted to the demands of Premier League football, and having fallen way behind the attacking pecking order at Chelsea, the Ukrainian’s confidence has seemingly taken a hit. He could do well with a loan to get back his mojo and confidence, and a move to Newcastle would not be a bad idea at all.

Under Eddie Howe, Mudryk could get regular minutes and improve different facets of his game. The ex-Shakhtar man will be competing with quality players at St James Park and that would help him maintain the high standards. He could challenge the likes of Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes for a spot on the left flank in Howe’s starting XI.

Having an extra attacking option in the squad will only serve Newcastle better. And if the Blues make Mudryk available on a dry loan, the Magpies must try signing him.
