Erik ten Hag’s tenure as Manchester United manager has come to an end, with the club announcing his departure after two and a half years.

Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.

The Dutchman, who had been under pressure following United’s struggles last season, leaves with the team currently positioned 14th in the Premier League after nine games.

Last season, United’s eighth-place finish marked one of their worst in Premier League history, casting doubt over ten Hag’s role. However, a surprise FA Cup victory over Manchester City and an injury-hit campaign provided some defense for his performance, ultimately leading to a contract extension until 2026. British billionaire and INEOS chairman Jim Ratcliffe’s recent involvement in the club’s football operations added further scrutiny.

Despite hopes for a revival under ten Hag, United’s continued struggles ultimately led to the club’s decision to part ways.
