You stay classy, Leeds? Ferrell attends home game

Actor Will Ferrell attended Leeds United‘s Championship fixture against Burnley at Elland Road on Saturday.

The “Anchorman” star became a minority shareholder in Leeds this year. The club, who play in the second tier of English football, are run by the owners of the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers.

The ownership group first invested in Leeds in 2018 and increased its share to 44% in late 2021, then reached an agreement in 2023 to take over Leeds with NBA star Russell Westbrook and golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas also purchasing minority stakes in the club.

Ferrell is also a co-owner of MLS side LAFC.

Unfortunately for Ferrell, his presence did not inspire the home side as they fell to a 1-0 defeat on Luca Koleosho’s 18th-minute goal.

Ferrell, 57, is one of several American celebrities who have invested in English football in the wake of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s success at Wrexham.

Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady is a minority owner of Birmingham City.

On Friday, Wrexham drafted in two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning as a fan ahead of the team’s League One clash against Brady’s Birmingham.
