Liverpool's best players

The Arne Slot era at Anfield kicked off in August, and it’s been so far so good for Liverpool.

The Reds conspired to win all three of their opening games of the 2024/25 season, capping off August with a thoroughly impressive 3-0 win over arch rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Here’s Liverpool’s best-performing players of the month, according to our esteemed player ratings.

Best performance: vs Ipswich Town

Put simply, there isn’t a better full-back than Trent Alexander-Arnold in the Premier League and he proved that in August.

Be it as an overlapping right-back or an inverted one, Alexander-Arnold didn’t put a foot wrong in Liverpool’s opening three games of the season. The Reds higher-ups need to get their star full-back to sign a new deal at the club ASAP.

Best performance: vs Man Utd

It’s pretty easy to sum up Virgil van Dijk’s August performances:

A Van Dijk-led defence conceded zero goals in three games during the first month of the season.

Average rating: 7.6
Best performance: vs. Man Utd

After a dip in form in the second half of his maiden campaign with Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai has looked back to his very best in the first few weeks of 2024/25.

Having been pushed up into a slightly more advanced role under new boss Arne Slot, Szoboszlai has been given the licence to play in-between the lines in order to cause havoc for opposition defences – and he’s done exactly that.

Mohamed Salah

Average rating: 7.6
Best performance: vs Man Utd

Many Liverpool fans feared that Mohamed Salah’s powers had begun to wane after a less-than-impressive end to the 2023/24 season.

Salah most definitely allayed those fears in August.

His six goal contributions – three goals and three assists – were proof that there’s still plenty of gas left in the tank.

Luis Diaz

Average rating: 8
Best performance: vs Man Utd

August 2024 was probably the best month of Luis Diaz’s entire footballing career.

Having been surprisingly given a starting berth ahead of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, Diaz has looked hellbent on repaying his new manager’s faith in recent weeks.

His three goals – including a famous brace against Man Utd – and assist have gone a long way to repaying Slot for entrusting him with the left forward role.
