Liverpool have expressed an interest in signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgio Mamardashvili.

The Reds are the only Premier League club yet to make a summer signing thus far. Despite releasing Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara at the end of June, new head coach Arne Slot is still waiting to get back in the transfer market. However, things could finally change for the Merseysiders as we enter the final 10 days of the window.

Liverpool have reportedly up their ante to sign Giorgio Mamardashvili from Valencia. They plan to pay a fee in the region of £35 million to Valencia for the goalkeeper. The two clubs are close to reaching an agreement for the Georgia international, and should he join, the Reds will send him to fellow Premier League side Bournemouth on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

Mamardashvili, 23, has shone for Valencia over the past two seasons in La Liga. He was arguably their best player in an otherwise disappointing 2023/24 campaign. The 23-year-old starred for Georgia at the Euro 2024 in Germany, which has resulted in a rise in stock.

Alisson Becker has been the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia

Alisson Becker, Liverpool’s undisputed No.1, has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia for weeks and months. The Brazilian glovesman has been an excellent servant for the Merseyside outfit since arriving from AS Roma in 2018, helping them win several major honours including the Premier League and the Champions League.

Rated among the world’s best goalkeepers, he has been on the radar of Saudi Arabian clubs since the start of the summer transfer window. Liverpool have managed to keep hold of Alisson for this season but the prospect of a lucrative package in the Middle East could be difficult to turn down. After tasting great success at Anfield, he may end his time in the Premier League and join a host of superstars in the Saudi Pro League.

Giorgio Mamardashvili would be a fantastic long-term replacement for Alisson

Giorgio Mamardashvili has impressed in La Liga and on the international stage and has the qualities to thrive in the Premier League. Thus, it is not surprising that Liverpool are keen to sign him in this window.

The Arne Slot-managed club have a plan in place with the Georgia international, who is regarded very highly in Europe. They want to loan him out to Bournemouth so that the goalkeeper can continue his development with regular minutes in his tank. A year with the Cherries in the Premier League would help Mamardashvili settle in the Premier League and gain valuable experience. A year later, he is expected to replace Alisson as Liverpool’s No.1.

Thus, Liverpool investing close to £35 million for Mamardashvili now makes total sense.
