West Ham United keen on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler

West Ham United are keen on signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler but a move would depend on sales.

The Hammers are careful not to breach the financial rules after spending heavily across eight fresh faces in this summer transfer window. They are seeking offers for Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma, who have fallen down the defensive pecking order following the arrivals of Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo. The Irons, under new boss Julen Lopetegui, are also open to cashing in the likes of Maxwell Cornet, Michail Antonio and Danny Ings before the August 30 deadline.

As far as Carlos Soler is concerned, West Ham have reportedly held exploratory talks with PSG over a deal that could cost around £20m. With a lack of game time and little consideration from Luis Enrique, Soler’s future appears to be away from Parc des Princes. The Spaniard has failed to establish himself in the PSG first team after joining from Valencia in 2022, making a total of 63 appearances across two campaigns.

PSG are keen to offload the 27-year-old permanently this summer but are not ruling out a possibility of a loan with an option to buy. West Ham must move on fringe players from their books before bringing Soler to the London Stadium. Should he join, Soler will become Lopetegui’s ninth summer signing in what has been an exciting transfer window for the fans to witness.

West Ham’s midfield remains stocked

In Tomas Soucek, Edson Alvarez, Lucas Paqueta, James Ward-Prowse and Guido Rodriguez, West Ham are stocked in the midfield department. There is speculation surrounding the future of Alvarez following Rodriguez’s arrival while Ward-Prowse, who was a regular fixture in midfield under Lopetegui’s predecessor David Moyes, came off the bench in the Hammers’ 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the new season.

Thus, the East Londoners must move on players from the engine room as well in order to potentially make room for Soler. West Ham’s board aims to fortify their squad further with a player who has shown his quality in La Liga and Ligue 1. Soler could provide balance and the flair from midfield and wide areas to Lopetegui’s side.

At 27, the ex-Valencia skipper is entering the prime years of his career and would be determined to prove himself in the Premier League. That being said, West Ham must look to wrap up a deal for Soler as quickly as possible.
