The summer transfer window may be closed, but there’s still a number of top players available to be signed by Premier League clubs as free agents.
These players range from former Barcelona stars and France internationals, to Premier League champions and former PFA Young Player of the Year winners.
Here’s four players who are currently looking for a new employer, and the Premier League clubs who should be interested in their services.
Premier League clubs who should be interested: Man Utd, Arsenal
Man Utd
Manchester United have been perennially linked with a move for Adrien Rabiot ever since Erik ten Hag took charge, with the current manager reportedly a huge fan of the midfielder.
Ten Hag’s rather patchy record of requesting United to sign rather bad players, coupled with Rabiot’s heavily-criticised performances at Euro 2024, may raise alarms among fans. However, having watched Scott McTominay up sticks for Napoli on deadline day and Casemiro’s ability to run dissipate in recent weeks, an extra midfield body may be exactly what the Old Trafford club needs.
90min revealed last month that Rabiot is actually holding out for United. You know it makes sense, you Red Devils.
Arsenal
Speaking of football clubs that need bodies in midfield, here’s Arsenal.
After finding out that new signing Mikel Merino will be out of action for a while with a shoulder injury, the Gunners are notably light on options in the centre of the park.
Rabiot would fill a void for a month or so for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Premier League club who should be interested: Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Injury woes mean that Anthony Martial will probably never get a move to a big club again in his career, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still contribute in the Premier League.
For a club like Wolves, who have scored just two goals so far this season, Martial could be a shrewd acquisition. When fit, he can both create and score goals – that’s exactly the sort of player Wolves need.
Premier League club who should be interested: Southampton
Southampton
For a variety of reasons, Dele Alli has struggled to find his early career form over the last few seasons. That being said, there’s still a player in there somewhere, and in the right environment Dele still has the capacity to shine.
That environment could be St Mary’s Stadium.
Having scored just one goal in the first three games of the season, the Saints are in dire need of a spark in the final third, and that’s exactly what a fully fit Dele could bring. If the Saints build their attack around the former PFA Young Player of the Year, they may have a hope of staying up.
Premier League clubs who should be interested: West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers
West Ham
Another defender that the Hammers have been linked with in recent weeks, Joel Matip would be a clever addition to their backline.
His leadership qualities and ability on and off the ball would make him a starter at London Stadium (when fit, of course).
Wolves
Those leadership qualities wouldn’t go amiss in a Wolves defence that has been left reeling by the sale of Max Kilman.
Having conceded nine goals in three games, the midlands club are in need of a new centre-back option.
