3 Liverpool youngsters who could feature in Carabao Cup clash with Brighton

Arne Slot will get the chance to rotate his Liverpool squad when they travel south to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Reds have a sapping schedule to contend with throughout the 2024/25 season and their Dutch manager will undoubtedly be keen to rest some of his key players, with big tests on the horizon both domestically and on the continent.

Liverpool have some promising youngsters coming through and Wednesday evening is a perfect opportunity to blood in some exciting talents. Here are some of the stars Slot could turn to at the AMEX Stadium.

It does seem slightly unlikely for Slot to drop too far down his goalkeeping pecking order given Caoimhin Kelleher is already filling in for the injured Alisson.

However, the Dutchman does have a few options he can turn to. If neither Kelleher or Vitezslav Jaros get the nod, that would leave 21-year-old Harvey Davies in line to make his senior debut for the club.

The England Under-20 international spent last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra in League Two, making 31 appearances in all competitions, and has been around the first-team squad so far this term, sitting on the bench in recent clashes with Arsenal and RB Leipzig.

Tyler Morton

In an alternate universe, young midfielder Tyler Morton would have been playing in the Bundesliga this season.

The 21-year-old was touted for an Anfield departure over the summer, with RB Leipzig first interested before an approach from Bayer Leverkusen was turned down.

Morton has picked up experience in both the Champions League and the Championship in recent years but has only played once under Slot so far, making a brief eight-minute cameo in the 5-1 thrashing of West Ham United. Wataru Endo is expected to start against Brighton, but Morton’s strength in possession should see him rewarded with another opportunity here.

Trey Nyoni

Trey Nyoni was part of the youthful Liverpool squad that beat Chelsea in last season’s Carabao Cup final. He didn’t make it onto the pitch, but the 17-year-old has enjoyed an increase in standing ever since.

The former Leicester City youngster impressed during pre-season, scoring in a friendly victory over Sevilla, and even attracted some wholesome praise from first-team midfielder Dominik Szobozslai.

He’s very much one for the future but, given he’s made the matchday squad for recent Champions League fixtures, there’s every chance Nyoni will get a chance to further establish his credentials against Brighton.
